Ukhrul, August 25 2024:
Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), Tangkhul Youth Council, has strongly criticised the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for failing to complete the expansion project of the Imphal-Ukhrul national highway on time.
According to TMNL president Themaso Tallanao, the delay in the highway project has caused immense hardships to the public, especially since the onset of the monsoon season.
"Persistent roadblocks due to landslides and poor road conditions have left the Imphal-Ukhrul route in a deplorable state," he pointed out, adding that the same has caused frequent instances of vehicles being stranded during emergencies.
Tallanao said that despite highlighting the grievances raised by the public, NHIDCL which is the responsible authority, has failed to address these concerns adequately.
"This issue has significantly affected people from all walks of life, and we strongly condemn the NHIDCL's failure to complete the project in a timely manner".
He appealed to the authorities concerned to expedite the completion of the highway expansion project and ensure the smooth and safe passage of commuters along the Imphal-Ukhrul route.
Tallanao then warned that the Youth Council will hold the NHIDCL accountable for any further repercussions if urgent action is not taken to address the situation.
