Kamjong DC launches 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan'

Kamjong deputy commissioner Rangnamei Rang Peter launched 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA)' at Sadbhavana Mandap, Kasom Khullen headquarters in Kamjong district on Tuesday.
Kamjong is one of the 272 districts across 32 state/union territories that have been identified as the most vulnerable in terms of usage of drugs in the country.
The vulnerable districts were identified on the basis of findings from the Comprehensive National Survey and the inputs provided by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
According to the National Comprehensive Survey .conducted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, there are more than 60 million drug users in the country of which a large number of users are in the age group of 10-17 years.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Rangnamei Rang Peter explained that main objective of launch of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan is to give awareness on the dreaded and harmful effects of drugs among the public, particularly the youth.
He observed that the future of new generation is in a very critical condition with the rise of the number drug users among the youth.
Stating that the biggest enemy of the youth is drug and other psychotropic substances which have eroded the social strata, he informed that the number of drug related deaths and crimes have increased tremendously over the last few years, which we couldn't solely make responsible to the government and other law enforcing agencies.
DC Rang Peter further highlighted that not only parents but also teachers and community leaders need to take a crucial role in fighting the menace of drug and other psychotropic substances.
The deputy commissioner also launched the Long Lasting Insecticidal Net (LUN) for prevention of mosquito-bite related diseases during the function.
Kamjong chief medical officer Dr Lucy Duidang and district social welfare officer A Tamphasana Chanu also deliberated at length on cause and harmful effects of drug abuse.
The programme was attended by Kamjong super intendent of police, sub-divisional officer and district malaria officer, along with Kasom Khullen headman, students and teachers.
