Imphal, July 23 2023:
Strong condemning the one-sided remark made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of a viral video and putting entire Meetei people to shame in front of the international community, former vice president of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Dr S Ibomcha has said that his 80-year old mother Sorokhaibam Bino too was burnt alive by Kukis inside her house after closing door.
Addressing media persons at MPP office on Sunday, Dr S Ibomcha said his father Sorokhaibam Churchand of Serou Awang Leikai was a freedom fighter.
On May 28, large number of Kuki militants attacked the Meeteis at Serou and my mother was burned alive by closing main door of the house, Dr S Ibomcha said and demanded that atrocities and killings committed by Kuki militants against the Meeteis must be brought to the floor of Parliament and discussed thoroughly.
While asserting that Prime Minister and chief minister of Manipur should work towards bringing solution to the present conflict, Dr Ibomcha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not divert the more than three months violence based on a single issue.
Manipur faced numerous ethnic clashes and encountered many serious issues in the past but CMs of the time put enormous efforts to contain the violence/issues.
How'ever, present chief minis-ter N Biren Singh is yet to take any concrete action to contain the ongoing violence and large numbers of security forces sent by the Centre too had gone to a different direction.
If CM Biren really loves Manipur, he should now take proactive action courageously to end the violence, Dr S Ibomcha said.
The present conflict might get worse if government fails to take up special measures immediately, he said and advised CM Biren to do the needful with courage if the Centre fails to bring an end to the ongoing violence.
