Imphal, April 23 2022:
As part of the measures taken up by Imphal Municipality Corporation (IMC) to maintain a level of cleanliness in Imphal City like that of a smart city, the Corporation has begun apprehending people dumping garbage in and around the city in the dead of the night from Friday evening and handing them over to police.
A team of IMC officials led by caretaker mayor L Lokeshwar conducted the drives in areas around Nagamapal, Waheng Leikai, and Pologround, and found many people dumping garbage.
Several caretaker corporators and police also participated in the drives.
Speaking in this regard, L Lokeshwar remarked that it is not possible to keep Imphal City clean without the cooperation of the people.
However, despite repeated requests not to dump garbage arbitrarily, many continue to do so.
Thus, he urged people to wait for the garbage to be collected by sewage collection vehicles and also pay the requisite fees in timely manner.
Informing that the drives will continue in different places, Lokeshwar cautioned that anyone found dumping garbage would be made to pay fine and handed over to police.
