Awareness prog on fisheries, forest fire held

Kakching, February 18 2025:
A one-day district-level awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), and LINAC-NCDC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre (LIFIC) was conducted on Tuesday at the auditorium of Library and Information Centre, Kakching.
The programme was jointly organised by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), LINAC, and RTC Guwahati.
Registrar of Cooperative Societies W Ibohal, Kakching district cooperative officer K Dilipkumar, district fishery officers K Dineshwar & Sapam Jiten, and NCDC deputy director, RO Guwahati, Jagadeshwar Rao S attended the programme as members on the dais.
Around 300 fish farmers from different parts of Kakching district participated in the programme.
Sapam Jiten delivered a lecture on the role of the department of fisheries in the development of the fisheries sector in Manipur and PMMSY scheme, highlighting implementation of financial assistance through various government schemes such as FFPO, FIDF, and PMMKSSY.
Jagadeshwar Rao S highlighted the role of NCDC in developing fisheries cooperatives across the country and explained the significance, application procedure, and benefits of the LINAC Fisheries Business Incubation Centre.
A similar programme was also conducted in Bishnupur district on Monday, focusing on empowering fish farmers with knowledge and resources to enhance fisheries and aquaculture development.
On the other-hand, an awareness programme for village chiefs on the topic "Forest Fire Protection for Environmental Concerns" was held at Limkhu Hotel, Japhou Bazar in Chandel district on Tuesday.
The programme organised by office of Chandel Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) was attended by Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) president Francis Thamdok and Chandel DFO Dr Naorem Munal Meitei as chief guest and president respectively while Naga Chief Association, Chandel (NCAC) president Ruwngwar Anal and Maha Area Chiefs' Association (MACA) chairman Angam were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Munal informed that as per the Forest Survey of India report, Chandel has recorded the lowest instances of forest fires in the state.
He also emphasised the need for preventing occurrence of forest fires in the district.
