MU allows provisional admission to PG courses

Following the Admission Committee meeting on July 16, Manipur University has granted provisional admission to students who are on the merit list based on their CUET-2024 scores, even if their results from qualifying examinations are still pending.
Meanwhile, the DM University Students' Union president Irom Dimocha has threatened to intensify the ongoing protests if Manipur University fails to keep its promise.
Manipur University registrar Prof W Chandbabu issued an order allowing provisional admission to students who are on the merit list based on their CUET-2024 scores, even if their results from qualifying examinations are still pending.
The order said that students provisionally admitted into the 1st semester of PG courses based on CUET-2024 scores must submit necessary documents by August 21, 2024, to confirm their admission failing which the department concerned shall cancel their admission and initiate refund of the fees paid as per norms.
Furthermore, until their admission is confirmed, provisionally admitted students will not receive University enrolment numbers.
The university has also addressed the issue of dropped candidates from the merit list due to document non-submission.
Departments are authorised to increase seats by 10 percent of the notified intake to accommodate these candidates solely for the academic session 2024-25.This decision will be reviewed by the Academic Council, the notice added.
The commencement of the new session for PG courses is scheduled for July 22, 2024, as per the University Academic Calendar for 2024-25.It may be mentioned that students who have scored in CUET 2024 are eligible to pursue studies in different departments at MU.
However, due to pending results of the 5th semester examination and the upcoming 6th semester examination, students expressed concern through protests that they might not be permitted to pursue PG courses at MU.
Subsequently, a meeting of the MU Admission Committee was convened on Tuesday, resulting in the decision to grant provisional admission orders.
Meanwhile, DMU students continued their hunger strike agitation for the 9th day at hunger strike at Ima Panthoibi Irat Thouni Lup cum community hall at Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai.
Speaking to reporters, DM University Students' Union president Irom Dimocha welcome decision of MU.
However, if MU authority does not honour demands/proposals of the union", more intense form of agitation will be resorted to, he cautioned.
