The court of District and Sessions Judge, Bishnupur awarded five years imprisonment for Yumnam Babu, who was convicted in April, 2014 for murdering one Nongmaithem Ibotombi, and imposed Rs 5 lakh fine as compensation to the next to kin of the deceased person.
During the sentence hearing of the case on Monday, 60-year-old Yumnam Babu, son of late Ibomcha of Kumbi IB road, was produced before the court by a security team of Central Jail, Sajiwa.

After perusing statements of both parties, the court decreed five years imprisonment for Yumnam Babu and payment of Rs 1,000 as fine to the victim s family within three years.
The court also ordered that sentence period will be extended for six months if the convict does not pay the fine within the stipulated time, ruled that the days spent by the convict in judicial custody during the trial period will be commuted from the total jail term and asked the jail authority to provide necessary medical help to the convict in jail.
The court also ordered that relevant authority should pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation under Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme, 2019 to the family of Nongmaithem Ibotombi.
