Five-day training workshop begins

Disaster Management Cell of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with National Mental Health Programme, NHS, NHM Manipur and Directorate of Health Services, Manipur launched a five-day training workshop on 'Psychosocial care and disaster management: Health Sector Disaster Preparedness and response', for chief medical officers, mental health counsellors and clinical psychologists at Hotel Yaiphaba, here on Monday.
Presided over by Manipur Public Health additional director Dr Chambo Gonmei, the launch function was attended by Health Services director Dr Oinam Sanahanbi Devi as chief guest.
In his speech, NIMHANS, Bengaluru Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management associate professor cum principal investigator Dr Sanjeev Kumar Manikappa explained that effects on mental health can persist for a while or continue long time.
As such, health care providers play an important role in this regard, including providing timely care and response through the government, he added.
The inaugural function was also attended by National Mental Health Programme, Manipur state nodal officer Dr A Ranita Devi and SHQ, NHM, Manipur clinical psychologist M Herojit.
