Imoinu market, Tikendrajit bust unveiled at Hojai

Along with a newly constructed shed of Imoinu Market, a bust of Tikendrajit was unveiled at Geeta Mandir, Hojai in Assam on Saturday.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Education RK Ranjan, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, Hojai MLA Ram Krishna Ghosh and Manipuri Short Story Society India president Laisom Gulap attended the function which was jointly organised by Shivpur Village Development Committee of Shivpur, Jugijan and Shivapur Nabajyoti Club at Shivpur Jugijan Cultural Hall, Hojai as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Nando Luwang pointed out that although Manipuris are living in different states/countries, the blood and cultural bond is inseparable.
We must strive to be united at all times, while also upholding the principles laid down by our ancestors such as being independent, resilient against outside influences, integrity above personal relationships and self-sustainability, he said.
Nando also urged the present generation to cultivate the zeal to serve the people and society while understanding the sacrifices made by our forefathers for Manipur, in remembrance of which Patriots" Day is being observed.
It is time for the indigenous Manipuri people, particularly the Meiteis to study the condition of their bloods brothers settling in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Myanmar, Bangladesh and other countries so as to help strengthen the bond among the people.
He then prayed for Tikendrajit and other deceased patriots of the state to give courage to the masses in this regard.
Stating that many communities including the Meitei Pangal took part in the freedom struggle against the British, Nando remarked that the attendance of Meitei Pangal in Saturday's function is a sign of the close relationship between the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities of Hojai.
In his presidential speech, Laisom Gulap Manipuri Short Story Society president Laisom Gulap said that Manipuris who are settling outside Manipur continue to remember their mother state and preserve the rich culture, customs, traditions and language.
Meiteis settling in Hojai-Lanka speak Meiteilon more fluently than others, he stated, while adding that the younger generation must always remember the patriots' sacrifices and love for Manipur.
MoS RK Ranjan, who attended as chief guest, donated Rs 10,000, while AMUCO extended Rs 70,000 as monetary assistance.
