Imphal, November 12 2024:
Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) has announced indefinite closure of the Imphal-Ukhrul road, protesting alleged indifferent attitude by authorities concerned to its demand for deployment of state security forces at Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching and Thamnapokpi Uyok Ching.
The road shutdown will remain in force till the authorities including Lamlai MLA take actions to implement the agreement reached regarding deployment of state forces in the area.
Announcing closure of Imphal-Ukhrul road during a press conference at Sabungkhok Tuesday, LKWF commander-in-chief Yumkhaibam Bashan said Kuki militants have been attacking the fringe villages under Lamlai AC namely Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, Shanti Khongbal and Sabungkhok Khunou since the beginning of the conflict.
In view of the repeated attacks, people in these fringe villages have been demanding deployment of state forces at Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching and Thamnapokpi Uyok Ching since the past many months and even launched agitation, Bashan reasoned.
He also recalled that Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha had assured of honouring demands of the villagers within September, 2024 but his promise has not been translated into action.
Due to the absence of security forces, Kuki militants continued to attack the villages, Bashan lamented, adding that the latest attack from atop Yaingangpokpi Uyok Ching and Thamnapokpi Uyok continued for four consecutive days.
