Imphal, November 11 2024:
Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has expressed deep concern over the increasing disruptions affecting the academic environment in schools across the state.
The teachers' community, which has been contributing voluntarily to aid victims of the ongoing ethnic crisis, has extended requisite support and cooperation to various frontline organisations, COTA said in a statement.
It appealed to all stakeholders to respect and protect the dignity of the teaching community and support their mission of fostering a stable and enriching academic environment for students.
COTA urged civil society organisations (CSOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and armed groups to refrain from exerting pressure for monetary contributions in the name of the current crisis.
The council noted that such demands have caused immense stress and anxiety on teachers.
COTA's commitment to making education a disturbance-free zone remains steadfast, the statement said, emphasising efforts to enhance government school education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) .
The association highlighted that it has been supporting affected individuals to the best of its capacity since the onset of the crisis, reiterating that "any form of harassment or violence against teachers would not be tolerated" .
The statement underscored that any attack on a teacher is viewed as a serious matter, as teachers play a crucial role in societal development while cautioning that further mistreatment of educators would force them to take stern measures, potentially impacting their ability to continue imparting education.
