CMO condemns attack on ambulance

Thoubal chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Y Nokul condemned the attack on an ambulance of Thoubal district hospital which caused injuries to the driver, who was transporting injured individuals during a protest outside the Thoubal Superintendent of Police (SP) office on September 9.Speaking to media persons at his office on Wednesday, Dr Nokul pointed out that those injured in the protest were brought in the ambulance to hospitals.
The only advanced life support ambulance of Thoubal district hospital has been extending all possible help to the needy amid the conflict and protest.
As transporting the injured is fundamental duty of ambulances, they rushed to the protest site in front of SP's office upon receiving information about an injured person.
However, some protestors pelted stones at the ambulance and destroyed vital medical equipment while trying to evacuate the injured people from the protest site, the CMO recounted, while stating that even if the perpetrators could not be identified individually it was crystal clear that they were not students.
An FIR has been registered to police, he informed, while urging all not to repeat such act in future.
