Kakching, August 10 2024:
Internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup sheltering in various relief camps staged a sit-in protest at Sugnu Keithel on Friday demanding that they be allowed to return back to their respective homes.
Speaking to media person, one of the protestors, Angomchambam (o) Rita Leima stated that it has been more than 13 months since they have been staying in relief camps as refugees and they are losing hope of ever returning back to their homes.
Mentioning that they want to go back to their houses, she demanded that the government take security measures so that they can safely stay at their own homes in Napat village.
Rita further cautioned that if the government continues to remain indifferent to their demands then they will move back to their village irrespective of government's decision and the government should bear all responsibilities in case of any unwanted incident.
On the other hand, one Yumanam Ojit Meitei decried that they have not received any fund from the government despite the announcement of providing compensatory funds to rebuild their houses.
He further claimed that displaced residents of Napat and Tangjeng Alhallup have also not yet received any compensation for not being able to carry out farming activities in their land.
Ojit reiterated that government should take steps for villagers to go back to their villages.
If the government does not heed their demand then the people will decide on their own to head back to their respective villages, he further emphasised.
