Imphal, February 09 2025:
Maintaining that the displaced people cannot stay forever in the relief camp in the absence of basic facilities and amenities, and most importantly lack of income generation source, United People's Front (UPF) president N Rupachandra has stressed the urgent need for decisive policies for early resettlement of the displaced people.
He made the remark at a free health camp organised by UPF in association with chief medical officer (CMO), Imphal East with support of Arambai Tenggol Unit 55 at Pukhao Ahallup, a periphery village in the red zone area, on Sunday.
Interacting with the media, Rupachandra highlighted the hardships of the displaced people, who have been living in relief camps for over 21 months.
"Staying in relief camps for this long is not an easy situation and yet they are compelled to stay there enduring the hardships.
The government needs to frame policies and act on the same to restore peace and facilitate resettlement at their own lands with housing support to rebuild their homes and lives.
If the government cannot facilitate their early resettlement, then there is no reason for the government to exist," he said.
CMO Maibam Johnson said that the health camp was organised to provide basic services in the periphery areas where people lack basic medical facilities.
Apart from free consultation and some basic diagnosis, they are also providing medicines at free of cost to the visitors, he added.
Around 80 persons from the area visited the health camp.
