Senapati celebrates International Literacy Day

The District Literacy Mission Authority (DLM) in Senapati celebrated International Literacy Day at Samaritan Public School under the theme "Education for all" .
The event was attended by ADM and chairman of DLM Senapati PP Ronald, Good Samaritan Foundation Senapati president N Benjamin Tao, and SDC HQ Pf Lophro as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In her address, Pf Lophro emphasised the importance of education for every child, as it forms the backbone of any society.
She highlighted the New India Literacy program, which extends its focus beyond the age of 14 to encompass individuals aged 15 to 35, underscoring the global significance of education.
N Benjamin Tao said that the responsibility for promoting the New India Literacy program goes beyond government employees and extends to civil societies and NGOs.
He stressed the fallacy of refusing to learn something new due to age and encouraged lifelong learning.
Tao emphasised the value of learning from the wisdom and experiences of older individuals, stating that their teachings are invaluable.
He also urged individuals to acquire knowledge in various fields, including skills and first aid, and to share their acquired knowledge with others, emphasising that "We are born to serve" .
ADM PP Ronald highlighted the New India Literacy program as a centrally sponsored scheme aligned with the National Education Policy, 2020.The programme's five primary objectives include imparting foundational literacy and numeracy, teaching critical life skills, providing basic education, imparting vocational skills, and offering continuing education.
He explained that the Adult Education department and the State Literacy Mission Authority are collaborating to implement the programme.
It is currently being implemented in the first phase in five districts, including Bishnupur, Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong, and Thoubal, with plans to expand to other districts subsequently.
The programme is a collaborative effort involving PRI functionaries, village authorities, NGOs, religious leaders, local clubs, women's organisations, and more.
The event drew representatives from various departments, including the election department, ICDS, ADC teachers, village authorities, ZEO staff, DIET, NYK, and the staff of Samaritan Public School.
