Imphal, September 06 2024:
In light of the escalating violence and unrest across the state, the government has ordered closure of all schools and colleges on Saturday to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The directorate of education issued an order mandating shutdown of all government, private, and central schools across the state.
The order stated, "In view of the unrest and prevailing situation in the state and keeping in mind the safety of the students and teachers, all government schools, government-aided, private, and central schools of the state will stay closed on the 7th of September, 2024" .
ZEOs have been instructed to inform all schools within their jurisdiction and take necessary actions to ensure compliance with the directive.
Additionally, the higher and technical education department also issued a similar notice, ordering the closure of all government institutions, aided colleges, and private colleges on the same day.
This decision follows a surge in violence, particularly in Bishnupur and Imphal West districts, where recent attacks have claimed civilian lives.
On September 6, Kuki militants launched rocket attacks in Tronglaobi and Moirang in Bishnupur district, killing an elderly man and injuring five others, including a 13-year-old girl.
