Committee launches river clean-up drive

Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC), operating under the Autonomous District Council, Senapati, has launched an initiative to clean the Senapati River, with activities beginning on November 1 .
This, initiative follows a meeting held on October 28 with chairmen/secretaries of various Villages and colonies situated along the river within Senapati district headquarters.
The meeting emphasised raising public awareness about the vital role of the Senapati River and the importance of preserving it by preventing random discard of garbage and human or animal waste directly into the fiver.
During the clean-up inspection, KSTC representatives reported that three labourers have been engaged on a daily wage basis since October 1, in addition to contributions from KSTC officials.
The drive, which began from near Bethany Higher Secondary School, Rikhumai Taphou, has reached Senapati Bridge as of Tuesday.
The committee further informed that waste removal along the river will continue up to the District Council.
Upon completion, a new, directive is expected from the DC/CEO, ADC, Senapati, prohibiting disposal of solid waste into the river, to back long-term conservation efforts.
