Date palm, fruit plants planted

Imphal, June 05 2022:
UNACCO Residential School Chanung organised a tree plantation programme in the campus of the school, which is being constructed at Chanung in Imphal East district, as part of the World Environment Day observance on Sunday.
MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand and UNACCO managing director N Irabanta led the participants in planting over 50 date palm plants along with different indigenous fruit bearing plants during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Khemchand expressed concern over the impact of global warming and stressed the need for protecting environment to revert the impact of climate change.
He also underscored the need for self-realisation among the public in order the protect environment while urging the public to plant at least one plant every year.
Sanaleibak daily editor Ningombam Hemantakumar also expressed concern over the decreasing forest cover in the state while stressing the need for immediate response to replenish the green cover.
Retired forest officer Elangbam Home spoke on the importance of plants for the survival of all living beings.
