Senapati, August 04 2024:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reaffirmed its stand to support the Indo-Naga peace process being held at the Prime Ministerial level between the central government and National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) as two entities.
According to ANSAM president Luikang Luckson, and general secretary Angte-shang Maring, Naga people welcomed the Framework Agreement (FA) signed on August 3, 2015 between the two entities after two decades of negotiations with high hopes and expectations.
The historic agreement signed before the international audience at the residence of PM Narendra Modi at Richmond Road, New Delhi recognised the unique history and position of the Nagas and acknowledged that Nagas have history of independence and were never part of India and Myanmar either by conquest or by consent.
Further, the FA officially recognised the Indo-Naga conflict as a 'Political conflict' and not an issue of Taw and order' of India, and acknowledging the sovereignty of the Nagas agreed to share sovereign power, it claimed.
Expressing deep concern over final solution eluding the fact even after nine years of its signing and subsequent parleys, ANSAM questioned commitment and sincerity of the Indian leadership and upon the central government to expedite the impending Indo-Naga peace talks to hammer out a negotiated settlement based on FA recognising the Naga flag, constitution and integration as inalienable rights of the Nagas.
It reiterated that any settlement deviating from the national principle of the Nagas and its historical and political rights will not address the political aspirations of the Nagas.
The students' body further urged the central government to respect the FA and their stance to expedite for a logical solution focusing on one 'mutually negotiated solution' that is inclusive, honourable and acceptable to the Naga people.
