Committee backs move to remove AR

United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi GP said that the committee supports the demand for removal of Assam Rifles from the state but wants to keep 18 AR CO Col Akash and his battalion currently deployed at Pukhao-Dolaithabi area till withdrawal of entire AR units from the state.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, United Committee of Pukhao and Makeng Dolaithabi GP advisor Naorem Nageshwar Meitei said the committee was formed by 14 villages to help people displaced due to the violence since May 3 and enable the displaced villagers return to their houses.
Another objective of the committee is to assist the CSOs facilitating return of displaced persons to their native villages, he said adding that the committee has been taking part in various activities of the people of Manipur and CSOs.
According to Nageshwar, the committee supports the demand being raised by the people and CSOs to remove entire AR units from Manipur and would continue to adopt the same stand in future too.
However, the committee is against removal of 18AR and its CO Col Akash before removal of entire AR units from Manipur, he said and claimed that Col Akash has been taking important role in bringing back peace and normalcy in Pukhao-Dolaithabi area.
