Twelve UG cadres, three AT trio rounded up

Imphal, February 03 2025: Based on specific intelligence about presence of underground cadres in Kakching and Imphal West districts and other areas, Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a series of operations leading to apprehension of three UG cadres and same number of Arambai Tenggol members.

According to PRO IGAR (S), on February 1 Assam Rifles, BSF and Manipur police launched joint operations at Langmeidong Mamang Awang Leikai in Kakching district and apprehended a cadre of KCP (T) .

In a similar operation conducted in general area of Khumbong Bazar in Imphal West district, a cadre of National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) was apprehended along with one pistol with ammunition and war like stores.

Three Arambai Tenggol members were also apprehended near a stone crusher located in New Keithelmanbi in intelligence based operation.

The trio was apprehended as the troops stopped the vehicle they were travelling in for checking documents, the PRO informed.

On the other-hand, security forces arrested four members of different armed outfits.

According to police, Kakching district commando arrested a cadre of the proscribed KYKL identified as Mayengbam Joychandra Singh (24) alias Boinao, son of M Nabachandra Singh of Wabagai Kadajit, from Wabagai Bazar area around 12.30 Monday.

Joychandra was reportedly involved in extortion activities in Kakching, Thoubal and Imphal West districts under the command of KYKL Thoubal and Kakching district commander Ksh Jacob.

Two mobile phones and an A-star car were recbv-ered from the possession of Joychandra, who has been handed over to Hiyanglam police station for necessary actions.

Kakching district police commandos also arrested a UPPK cadre identified as Pheiroijam Thoiba Singh (23), son of Ph Manglem of Irengband Hawairou Lai Maya from Irengband Hawairou.

One mobile phone, an A-Star car, Aadhaar card, PAN card and voter ID were seized from him, said the police report, adding that he has been handed over to Kakching police station for further actions.

A joint team of Thoubal commando unit and 4 AR apprehended one self-styled captain of the proscribed PREPAK (PRO) identified as Sinam Yaima Meitei alias Chingakpa (45) son of late S Lukhoi Meetei of Nongpok Sekmai Awang Leikai from Phouden area under Yairipok police station on Monday around 2.45 pm.

One TATA Magic Iris, a keypad mobile phone and a key were recovered from his possession.

On the other hand, Manipur police arrested an active member of proscribed KCP (PWG) from Lamphel Supermarket on Sunday.

According to a release issued by Manipur police control room, the arrested person identified as Leihaothabam Nanao Sharma alias Puremba (29) was involved in extortion from businesspersons, government employees and public in Imphal area.

Items recovered from him included a mobile phone and a sim card.

The release further informed that an Insas magazine, two rounds and one casing of AK rifle were recovered from Matajang village under Churachandpur police station.

In another operation, a team of Imphal East district police arrested five cadres of the banned KCP (City Meitei) along with weapons from Thakur Bari area under Porompat police station on Monday.

According to a police report, acting on reliable information about presence of some extortion groups in Thakur Bari area, the team conducted a search operation on Monday afternoon.

During the operation, the team apprehended five cadres of banned KCP (City Meitei) identified as Laishram Bullu (26) s/o Loken of Chana Mayai Leikai, RK Nelson (19) s/o Ningtheni of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Lairenlakpam Thoibam (27) s/o Ibotombi of Phaknung Awang Leikai, Kangujam Jebash (28) s/o Chandrajit of Phaknung Mayai Leikai and Boyamayum Jabirkhan (19) s/o Tomba of Paobitek.

Police recovered tome arms and ammunition, cash and one four-wheeler from their possession.
