Search Ops conducted, six held, arms recovered

Security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination in both the hill and valley districts over the past couple of days, during which arms and ammunition were recovered, and cadres/member of various armed organisations arrested.
According to a statement issued by the Manipur Police Common Control Room, a search operation conducted on November 28 led to recovery of weapons and ammunition from S Mongpi ridges in Kangpokpi district.
Among the recoveries included one each 303 rifle and Chinese-made 9mm pistol, two SBBL guns, a 5.56 mm INSAS LMG magazine, two No.36 hand grenades, two detonators, 16 rounds, three tear smoke grenades, two normal tear smoke shells, an 80 mm grenade (WP ammunition), a long-range Pumpi and a wireless set (Baofeng).
It also informed that on November 28, a team of Manipur police arrested one Chongtham Thoicha alias Romeo Meitei from Kiyam Mamang Leikai under Patsoi police station in Imphal West district in connection with the damage and arson of properties belonging to elected members on November 16.In another search operation the same day, Manipur police arrested three active members of the banned KCP (PWG) .
The arrested individuals were Chongtham Shyamchandra Singh (23) of Imphal West, Maibam Suraj Khan (32) of Imphal East and Boghimayum Sahid Khan (30) of Imphal East.
The trio was involved in extortion activities and unauthorised possession of arms.
From their possession, the police seized three rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, a .32 casing, three mobile phones and one wallet.
On November 29, an active member of UNLF (Ningon Macha) identified as Sangomshumpharn Warish alias Chingnungakpa (25) was arrested from Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi Salam Makok, Thoubal along with a .32 pistol, magazine and three rounds, a black holster, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, a mobile handset and a four- wheeler.
On the same day, the police arrested an active member of PREPAK (Pro) namely Huidrom Priyokumar Singh (37) from Imphal West district for his involvement in extortion activities targeting shops in Imphal area.
The police recovered a mobile handset, a brown wallet containing Rs 1150, an Aadhaar card and a two-wheeler from his possession.
Meanwhile, the statement informed that police ensured safe movement of 262 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2.Strict security measures were taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it explained, adding that a total of 94 checkpoints were installed in different districts of the state, both in the hills and the valley.
