Imphal, November 01 2024:
Manipur State Committee of Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organisation (FIBDO), a newly-formed body, is planning to organise a state level conference to address issues related to blood donation in the state.
The Committee said that after the conference, which aims to encourage higher participation from blood donors, a zonal conference would be held for the Northeast region.
Informing this during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, Committee president Premjit Moirangthem said that only 30 percent of blood requirement in the state comes from voluntary blood donors.
As a result, patients requiring blood transfusion find it difficult to obtain blood, he stated, while highlighting the rationale for establishing the Committee.
The Committee was formed by different blood donor organisations and blood centres of different hospitals to explore ways to resolve the shortage and motivate the public for more donations, he said.
On the other hand, an Act concerning blood donation is likely to be passed soon.
Under this act, hospitals can no longer force patient parties to provide blood.
In such a situation, increasing the number of donors has become a priority in order to meet the demand; he said and urged the public to donate blood regularly.
