Rath Yatra festival celebrated across the valley

Imphal, July 01 2022:
Rath Yatra (Kang Chingba), one of the important festivals of followers of Hindu religion, was celebrated across the valley on Friday.
Celebrated for a period of 10 days starting from the second day of the month of Inga (June-July) of the Meetei lunar calendar, the main celebration was held at Shree Shree Govindaji Temple, Palace Compound here, in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba.
After offering of prayers and other necessary rituals, the Rath (Chariot) carrying the idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra were drawn from the Temple's gate till the City Convention Centre before returning back to the Temple.
People from across the state offered prayers and items to the idols and also took part in the procession.
On the other hand, ISKCON Manipur, Sangaiprou organised a Rath Yatra procession on Friday.
The celebration was attended by Agriculture minister Th Biswajit and participated by people residing along Tiddim road.
Mention may be made here that the festival was celebrated in name only in the last two years owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the pandemic subsiding, participation of the people in this year's celebrations also increased.
