Imphal, July 01 2021:
Ex-MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency Soibam Subhaschandra has begun cleaning of Waisen Maril stream.
Speaking to media, Subhaschandra said that he came across a report of ex-MLA RK Anand assessing the condition of Waisen Maril during which he also reportedly spoke of cleansing the stream when he was an MLA.
As such, RK Anand may shoulder the responsibility of proper maintenance of the stream instead of just blaming the government.
On the other hand, he (Subhaschandra) has begun cleaning the stream considering the need of the hour as cultivation season begins in the state.
Though no longer an MLA, he is taking up the responsibility of cleaning the stream for the people of the constituency, especially the farmers, Subhaschandra said and opined that an ex-MLA can always take up development work for the welfare of the people.
The ex-MLA can take up similar initiative in another stretch of the stream and he does not have any objection.
Subhaschandra further said that he is taking up the cleaning work on his own expense without any funding from the government.
As MLA of the constituency, he blacktopped the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai road without having any work order or including in the government's programme.
It would be better if the ex-MLA mentions such initiatives during his speeches, Subhaschandra said.
He also spoke about various initiatives he took up in the three and half years as MLA such as construction of community hall and club buildings, road repairing & renovation and extending helping hands to several poor families.
He is now an ex-MLA due to a political incident and he accepts the fact that the constituency is left without an MLA.
Instead of raking up the issue repeatedly without doing nothing, those who are gearing up to fight the forthcoming state assembly election should do whatever they could for the welfare of the people.
He has also been providing food items to around 1500 Covid affected families of the constituency, who are in containment zones.
He then appealed to farmers along the Waishel Maril not to dump straw wastes during harvesting season into the stream and to the general people to stop dumping household garbage.
