Imphal, November 30 2021:
Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation (MDAHCEO) has announced a bandh along ' Imphal- Ukhrul- Kamjong highway on December 3 and 4, in protest against the state government's alleged failure to honour the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) inked between the two entities.
Announcing this in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, MDAHCEO vice chairman Thanmi Rimai lamented that the state government is yet to release the compensation packages to those affected by Mapithel Dam despite signing of an MoA.
According to the MoA, the government is to disburse all of the packages within this year.
In this regard, several memorandums were submitted and bandhs/protests organised.
However, the government continued to remain in different.
On October 11, a sit-in protest was staged at Lamlai Khunou, wherein the government was urged to take away the dam and allow the villages to return to their old lives, considering its failure of honouring the MoA, he added.
Rimai continued that the around 60 percent of the affected villages have received the compensation.
However, the government's apathy towards the remaining 40 percent is rather unfortunate.
As such, MDAHCEO will be imposing a shut-down along Imphal-Ukhrul-Kamjong highway on December 3 and 4, he informed, while cautioning of intensifying the agitations if the government continues to remain apathetic to the plight of the dam-affected villagers.
