Imphal, January 31 2022:
While appealing to all concerned not to threaten the non-Manipuris in Thangal Bazar who are working as workers of Janata Dal (United), Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, who is also the party's candidate in the ensuing state assembly election, has urged for concerted efforts in ensuring peaceful conduct of the upcoming polls.
On Monday morning, former BJP Thangmeiband Mandal president Sinam Saratjit was accorded a warm welcome on joining JD (U) in a function held at Heikham Kala Community hall, Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai.
The reception function was also attended by other leaders of JD(U).
Speaking on the occasion, Joykisan informed that some JD (U) workers residing in Thangal Bazar, who also happened to be non-Manipuris, have been receiving threats over the past few days.
Thus, he urged all concerned to stop all such acts and instead, help in ensuring the polls are conducted as peacefully as possible.
"Allow the people to vote for their preferred candidates instead of trying to hint at the existence of another government in addition to the present government.
Let's make the upcoming polls a free and fair election", he urged.
The MLA then condemned the murder of a Bihar native named Ashutosh Prasad a few days back, while remarking that it was unfortunate that the government is yet to apprehend the culprits till date.
The present situation begs the question whether the minorities are safe and secure in the state.
Regarding the joining of new members to JD (U), Joykisan said that the party would win big in the upcoming polls and play a huge role in the formation of the next government.
Thus, nothing can be gained by threatening the workers of the party, he said, while urging all concerned to focus attention on ensuring a peaceful election.
He then urged the government to investigate the murder case of Ashutosh Prasad instead of inducing fear among the non-Manipuris.
