Imphal, November 28:
Advocate N Koteshwore, who is representing the All Manipur Students Union, AMSU before the C Upendra commission of inquiry, charged today that the July 20 firing incident, which resulted in the killing of an innocent person and injury to several others, was state sponsored violence.
Koteshwore, speaking in the course of argument hearings before the commission, also reiterated the charge that the state government had been negligent in not taking necessary steps to prevent untoward incidents in connection with the ceasefire extension agreement.
Koteshwore claimed that the students who had taken out a rally on July 20 with the objective of surrendering their books to the Governor, and the large crowd of civilians that had gathered were peaceful.
He maintained that there was no incident of pelting of stones by the students and the crowd on the security forces on that day.
