Imphal, November 08:
The MSCP president and Lok Sabha member, Thounaojam Chaoba, has said that the process of downsizing of government should start from the top and not necessarily from the lower rung employees.
Speaking to media-persons at his official quarters today, Chaoba said those employees on the verge of retirement who are trying by hook or crook to delay their time of retirement should be targeted first instead of downsizing the lower rung employees, Chaoba however admitted that the state had an excess of employees, a total of 93 thousand while the optimum was 60-65 thousand.
He observed that there was an imbalance between the available money and the number of employees, and said the ongoing strike by the employees was not likely to be solved.
Regarding elections, he said early elections was not a priority on the MSCP's agenda and said the party would go with the voice of the people.
Though we know the present government is primarily focusing on downsizing and overseeing the situation, we will go with the people's mandate, he said.
During the press meet, the MSCP president also welcomed the councillors of Mayang Imphal municipal council who joined the MSCP fold today.
Those who have joined the MSCP include N Indira Devi, who was elected as an Independent, and Mala Bibi and K Ibohal who both belonged to the Congress.
