Imphal, November 06:
The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has strongly decried the recent demand of the United Naga Council (UNC) to merge all Naga inhabited districts of Manipur to Nagaland terming it as a ploy engineered by NSCN (IM) to create communal tension and disintegration of Manipur.
Expressing strong reservations to the memorandum of demands submitted by UNC to the Centre, UCM functionaries said today the responsibility for any eventuality should be taken by the UNC.
The Centre, after understanding the sentiments of the public retracted the decision to extend the NSCN (IM) ceasefire boundary to Manipur, they said.
Stating that recent act of the UNC is against the wishes of the people of Manipur who want peaceful co-existence, they said that such acts have befooled and diverted the minds of the people particularly those living in the hills.
They also alleged that the campaign of both NSCN (IM) and UNC being pursued in the name of peace will lead to the disintegration of Manipur.
After the roll back of the truce extension, UCM has taken up mass mobilization in the hill districts to ensure equal, benefits for the people.
This has yielded good response from the hill brethren, the UCM leaders said alleging that in the midst of its campaign for peace and communal harmony, the UNC is trying to break up the State.
The UCM leaders vehemently denied the contention that there are still a huge number of displaced people.
Those fleeing to the hills and staying back till today are self exiled persons in order to help false propaganda before the national and international community, they charged.
