Letpao leaves NPP to sup with BJP

Imphal, December 29 2021:
In a major political development and a blow to National People's Party (NPP), Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip has joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at New Delhi, today.
The Minister won the 11th Assembly election on the NPP ticket from 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency.
He joined BJP in the presence of Union Minister of Forest & Environment Bhupendra Yadav.
After welcoming Letpao to the party fold, Bhupendra Yadav said that he went to Manipur recently to oversee the party's (BJP) preparation for the ensuing Assembly election there.
He further stated that the people of Manipur have faith in BJP as the party has taken up several developmental activities in the poll bound State.
Letpao Haokip said that he joined BJP with a firm belief that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will develop the North Eastern State furthermore.
The BJP Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up several welfare schemes of over 130 crore population of India, the Minister reiterated.
The programme was also attended by BJP National spokesperson Sambit Patra and Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Sekhawat.
Letpao Haokip will contest the election from Tengnoupal AC.
Notably, NPP won 4 seats in the 2017 Assembly election.
NPP president Conrad K Sangma has also exuded confidence that the party would win big in the election, which is due in the 1 st quarter of 2022 during his recent visit to Manipur.
