Imphal, December 28 2019: A bomb exploded at Ngari-Galli, Thangal Keithel, at around 5 am today.

According to police source, the explosion occurred in front of a shop belonging to one Pradeep Kumar Roy (44) from Silchar.

The bomb (suspected to be an IED) destroyed the steel shutter of the fermented fish store but fortunately no one was injured in the blast, the source informed.

Soon after the blast, Imphal West district police rushed to the area and conducted a search for any other secondary explosives in the area with the help of a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) .

The source conveyed that yesterday, from around 4 pm, the area suffered a power outage and explained that IED might have been planted at that time taking advantage of the darkness.

A case has been registered at City PS regarding the incident.

On the other hand, womenfolk of the area staged a sit-in protest strongly condemning the bomb blast.

Speaking to media persons, the womenfolk stated that Ngari-Galli is a crowded area and such acts could have resulted in huge loss of lives.

They also appealed to all those concerned not to repeat such violent acts in the future.
