Imphal, December 28 2011:
Apex Naga frontal organisation in Manipur, the United Naga Council (UNC) has decided to openly support the Naga People's Front (NPF) while opposing the Congress party and their candidates in the Naga dominated hill districts of Manipur in the forthcoming Assembly election.
Talking to The Sangai Express, UNC president L Adani said that all election related activities of the Indian National Congress would be prohibited in Naga dominated hill districts of Manipur.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan's declaration at Imphal on December 3 that there was no proposal for any Supra State body and that the Centre was committed to the territorial integrity of Manipur was a direct challenge to the Naga issue, Adani said.
To the UNC, the demand for alternative arrangement for Nagas of Manipur outside the purview of Manipur Government, the demand for Naga integration and the Indo-Naga peace process are the most crucial issues for the Nagas.

The UNC would not support any political party which openly spoke and stood up against these key issues.
The NPF is a political party whereas the UNC is a civil society organisation.
Yet, the UNC and the NPF are quite in sync regarding their political views and positions.
As such, the UNC would openly support the NPF in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Moreover, if other political parties like the NCP, Trinamool Congress, BJP etc comprehend the Naga issue and reflect the same in their election manifestoes, the UNC would cooperate with their candidates, Adani stated.
Asserting that no Nagas should vote for the INC which has been openly challenging the Naga aspirations, the UNC president appealed to the Naga people to elect only men of integrity who can fight bravely for the Naga cause.
