Imphal/Noney/Kpi, September 28 2021: The 24-hours Statewide shutdown called by the JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai from September 29 midnight has been put off until further notice following a request from the Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) and the Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee in order to pay tribute to Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on his 125th birth anniversary.

Meanwhile, post mortem examination of Athuan Abonmai's body was conducted at RIMS today in the presence of some member of the JAC.

However, the body is still kept at RIMS mortuary in line with the JAC's earlier announcement not to claim the mortal remains until all its demands are fulfilled.

On the other hand, demanding arrest and punishment of all the culprits involved in the abduction and brutal murder of Abonmai, a number of youth and Meira Paibis blocked Imphal-Dimapur highway at Sekmai today.

As the protesters blocked the highway between Sekmai Koujengleima and Sekmai Bazar, vehicles moved along the diversion which passes through Pheidinga.

Later, the highway opened after the protesters and police arrived at an understanding.

On NH-37 all vehicular movements along NH-37, were stopped by bandh volunteers and many goods laden trucks and medium sized vehicles could be seen stranded on the roadside. SP Noney monitored the situation to avert any untoward incident along Imphal-Jiribam road.

So far there is no report of any untoward incident till the time of filing this report.

People of Kangpokpi district under the aegis of Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills have endorsed the stir of JAC against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai including the 48 hours road blockade which began yesterday midnight.

Hemin Kipgen, president KSO Sadar Hills said that the 48 hours road blockade imposed by JAC against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai has been endorsed by the people of Kangpokpi district and it will continue to support the movement of the JAC to deliver justice to the victim and the bereaved family.

He appealed everyone to avoid travelling along NH-2 during the road blockade as KSO Sadra Hills volunteers will strictly monitor the movement of vehicles along the National Highway and added that only emergency service will be exempted from the purview of the road blockade and any unwanted incident arising out of defying the blockade shall be the sole responsibility of the violators and the State Government.
