Expired commodities burnt at Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, October 27 2015:
Contaminated and expired commodities sold at various shops at Kangpokpi were seized and burnt in public view today.
Volunteers of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization and Kangpokpi Youth Union conducted a surprise drive to check sale of expired and contaminated commodities including food items, cosmetics, and medicine in the town today.
Various food items including cold drinks, eatables, cooking oil and cosmetic items and medicines which had passed their expiry dates and were found contaminated were found to be on sale in various shops in the town by the volunteers who seized and burnt them down in public view while warning the shop owners not to commit such unhygienic practice in future.
J Guite, vice chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee said that eating expired goods entails high risk to one's health and well being.
He said that producers are not responsible for our safety when the goods exceed its expected shelf life while cautioning the consumers to check the expiry date before buying products.
He also warned that if any shop vendors are found practicing unhygienic activities in the town then severe action will be initiated against them without giving anymore warning.
