IED explosion rocks Wangjing, none hurt

Imphal, October 26 2012:
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was buried under the ground exploded near Wangjing along NH 2 in Thoubal district at about 8.40 am today.
A police source informed that the IED exploded on the eastern side of the highway at a spot about two Kms away from Wangjing towards Khongjom.
An Assam Rifles convoy which was heading towards Kakching from Thoubal had passed the spot and the AR troops were about 100 metres away when the bomb exploded.
There is no report of any casualty.
Soon after, a team of Thoubal District Police and troops of 15 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot and scanned the area using sniffer dogs.
Several iron nuts were discovered from the spot.
Meanwhile, a protest demonstration was staged today at the Mantripukhri NRL oil pump in protest against the lobbing of a hand grenade at the oil pump yesterday.
The protest demonstration was participated by members of the Chumbreithong Women Development Association, womenfolk of Khabam Lamkhai and staff of the oil pump.
The protesters appealed to all concerned not to indulge in such mindless acts as grenade explosion at the oil pump would result in disaster in the whole area.
