Gang rape of housewife : More condemn

Imphal, March 26 2012: Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) and other bodies have registered condemnations of the gang rape of a housewife by miscreants including two IRB personnel on March 22 in Bishnupur district.

In a statement, HERICOUN maintained that the confidence and faith people repose on the security personnel has been lost with the involvement of IRB personnel in such crimes.

It urged the Home Department to initiate action against the culprits in order to prevent such incidents in the long-run.

It also lauded the efforts of the Bishnupur police and SP Th Radheshyam for the immediate action in arresting the culprits.

Condemning the gangrape, Women Action for Development (WAD) said that the involvement of State forces personnel in the crimes was unfortunate.

In a statement, WAD pointed out that 56 cases of violence against women have been reported since January this year.

Contending that the crimes against women are genocide, it called all concerned to respond to such crime against humanity irrespective of caste, creed, race and religion so that women feel protected and secured and are free from any fear.

The statement also lauded the prompt action of the Bishnupur police in arresting the rapists.

It urged the Home Department to initiate tangible action against the culprits (police personnel) in order to deliver justice.

It reminded that it is now the time to review the recruitment process of the State forces.

Dimdailong Women's Society Ltd has also strongly condemned the gang rape.

In a statement, the society hailed Home Minister Gaikhangam for the immediate arrest of the four rapists.

It also lauded the swift efforts of the Bishnupur district police in arresting the culprits.

The women society demanded stringent punishment against the rapists to prevent the recurrence of such inhuman acts in future.
