Rs 44 lakh in demonetised notes seized

Imphal, November 25 2016:
Troops of Tamei Battalion under the aegis of Senapati Brigade while checking vehicles at Wairangba village Part II in Tamenglong district intercepted a white Mahindra Scorpio vehicle, (MN-01-G-6531) and recovered Rs 44 lakh in demonetised currency notes on yesterday, according to PIB, Defence Wing.
The demonetised currency notes were packed in a bag and kept in the vehicle.
Two men one woman were detained.
The detained persons have been identified as Joyson Kamei son of Kandai Kamei resident of Nungba, Tamenglong district, Stephen Gangmei, son of Dinrei Gongmei, a resident of Gaidimjang, Khoupum police station, Tamenglong district while the woman has been identified as Romancy, daughter of Chittaranjan, of Lairikyengbam Leikai of Imphal East district.

As per the latest information, the detained persons along with the demonetised currency notes and the vehicle have been handed over to police at Imphal, the PIB, Defence Wing added.
On the other hand, the office of the Deputy Director of Income Tax (Investigation), Guwahati has acknowledged the receipt of the amount of Rs 44 lakh handed over to them by the State police.
An intimation to this effect was sent to the Officer-in-Charge of Patsoi police station, Imphal West today.
A total of 6792 notes in Rs 500 denomination amounting to Rs 33,96,000 and 1004 number of Rs 1000 notes amounting to Rs 10,04000 were received.
The total amount was Rs 44,00,000 (Rs 44 lakh) .
