NPF to field K Somi in Phungyar Constituency

The Manipur State unit of Naga People's Front (NPF) has unanimously chosen its spokesperson K Somi as the party's candidate for the Phungyar (ST) Assembly Constituency of Ukhrul district in the forthcoming polls to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly likely to be held in the early part of next year.
The decision came after hectic deliberations during a meeting which was held at the residence of K Somi at Tangkhul Avenue in Imphal today, NPF informed in a statement, adding that the meeting was attended by more than 500 participants, including 34 headmen and leaders of civil organizations of various villages, and general public as well as several top leaders of the party.
The members present in the meeting, which was convened specifically for choosing the candidates with the best potential for the coming 10th general elections, unanimously decided to declare the candidacy of K Somi for the polls expected to be held sometime in February next year, NPF added.
Somi Keishing has been selected to fight as an NPF candidate in Phungyar (ST) Assembly Constituency in the elections because of his social status and experiences in the crucial political affairs of Manipur in regard to the interest of the tribal in general and the Nagas in particular, it asserted.
The meeting further unanimously decided to apprise the decision jointly taken by State NPF and the general public to the higher authority to select Somi as a candidate for the Phungyar (ST) Assembly Constituency.
The meeting also declared that there was no favour for any other intending candidates to be chosen except Somi in respect of the constituency, the party insisted.
