Imphal West SP S Dinokumnar today informed the Upendra Commission that personnel of 81 CRPF deployed in front of Raj Bhawan, CM Secretariat, Central Library, Keishampat and in front of the State Assembly opened a total of 3-7 rounds of gunfire on June 18 to quell the uprising.
He said that the agitators tried to break open the southern gate of Raj Bhawan.
The hearing of the Commission is proceeding at Kuki Inn.
Deposing before the judicial inquiry, Dinokumar said security was on high alert following intelligence inputs that communal tension was high after the Bangkok declaration on June 14.As soon as the Imphal West District Magistrate ordered the imposition of curfew at 1 pm, he himself took the loud speaker and announced the imposition of curfew, said the SP.
A group of agitators was dispersed near the western gate of Kangla.
While the police was enforcing the curfew, he heard on the set that the CM bungalow was on fire.
When he reached the spot he saw three dead bodies lying there.
A search was also launched for the wife of Advisor (K) who stays at the CM's guest house.
On that day Imphal West police personnel opened fire with Mark III Tear Gas Grenade (20), Mark IV Tear Gas Grenade (12), Long Range Tear Gas Shell (41), Short Range Tear Gas Shell (34), Three-Way Tear Gas Grenade (84) at Moirangkhom, Keishampat, in front of Raj Bhawan, Airport road, Minuthong Leirak, Old Power house, Lamphel MLAs quarters.
Counsels for the UCM and victims family cross examined the SP.
One person, Laishram Raju, who was injured in the June 18 uprising testified before the Commission today.
