Imphal, September 25 2012:
Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Department has decided to ban the practice of taking LPG refill from agencies/distributors using DO letters of Ministers, MLAs, civil and police officers.
A highly placed source informed The Sangai Express that a decision to this effect was adopted during a meeting between IOC officials and LPG distributors which was presided by CAF&PD Minister M Okendro.
Significantly the proposed move has come close on the heels of a report published in The Sangai Express on how the bulk demand for LPG by Ministers, MLAs and officers, including police officials had eaten into the share of the common people.

The practice of obtaining LPG refill using DO letters has been eating into the LPG share of many rightful customers.
The same practice has been encouraging use of domestic LPG for commercial purposes.
Some people are even using the subsidised LPG in brewing alcohol.
Manipur has around 2.95 lakh cooking gas consumers.
But the consumers have not been getting their due shareand this was discussed during the meeting which was held a couple of days back.
Consumers would be provided their due share of subsidised LPG refill but extra requirements cannot be provided.
Yet, consumers may obtain extra refill cylinders according to their requirements at commercial price, said the source.
