A medical mission to Myanmar christened Mission Myanmar Phase-II was flagged off from Shija Hospital by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam at 10 am today.

Eleven members of the Shija Eye Care Foundation would conduct the necessary surgery at General Hospital, Monywa from December 26 to 28. Speaking at the occasion, Govindas hailed Shija Hospital Managing Director Dr Kh Palin and his team for bringing in many new medical technology and equipment to the State thereby earning due appreciation from not only people of the State but also neighbouring States and countries.
Manipur can progress further in the field of medicine in case restrictions imposed under Protected Area Permit (PAP) system are lifted.
Dr Palin exuded that the second mission flagged off today would be a success like its predecessor.
He also highlighted the need for opening passport office as well as visa on arrival facility at Imphal.
He too remarked that lifting PAP restrictions would facilitate cross-border movement of people for trade and medical treatment.
He conveyed gratitude to the Government of Manipur, Government of Myanmar and the Indian Consulate General for their contributions toward the mission.
In the last five years, Shija Eye Care Foundation has conducted 8000 cataract operations.
The hospital has up-to-date facilities for PHACO, retina surgery, Occuloplasty surgery and paediatric opthalmology.
Efforts are on to install necessary equipment for cornea transplantation, Dr Palin said.
In the first mission of May 2013, corrective surgery for cleft lip and palates were performed on 103 patients.
The basic objective of the mission is to foster closer relationship between Manipur and neighbouring Myanmar, Palin added.
