Samaritans help stranded folks at Chennai, Mumbai

Help comes in different forms and to thousands of people from Manipur who were/are stranded at Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, they were assisted to a good extent by some good samaritans who got together and helped them overcome the trouble during the COVID-19 induced lockdown and help them reach home as well as prepare them to leave the cities for Manipur.
Moreover, food, mattresses, towels and other needs were provided for the inmates at a shelter home for two days and one night at Chennai, before the inmates left for Manipur by train.
Apart from the group, IAS officer, Angam Chiru who is from Manipur and is a member of the Tamil Nadu Covid Relief team extended all the needed assistance to the stranded people in Chennai until their departure for Manipur by train.
The shelter home was set up by the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Thenthai Community Hall Bus Depot in Chennai.
The good samaritans, who are all posted outside Manipur and who extended all the help possible to the stranded people in Chennai included Dai Remmei, Angelus, Paujatlung etal, ZCRT and ZSUC.
Apart from helping the inmates at the shelter home for 2 days and one night, the group also distributed food ration to about 50 persons at Thandanam in Tamil Nadu, to 1040 persons at Chennai city, to 30 persons at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu and 146 persons at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Help was also extended to 75 people from Assam to find a shelter and they were fed and accommodated till they went back home in the night of May 22 .
For the 1250 people who left Chennai on May 20, the group provided dinner.
As the passengers were not provided anything till 10.20 pm on May 21, Dai Remmei got in touch with the railways which then provided them khichdi and water.
The good work of helping the stranded people was also extended at Mumbai along with the Godrej family, Nariman Bacha, Pratham Team and Dai Remmei.
Food ration worth Rs 4000 each which can last for a week were distributed to about 50 family at Mumbai.
Acknowledging the assistance of Dai Remmei and the others, the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Chennai and Zeme Matai Council, Assam have expressed their profound gratitude and prayed for their well being.
