Witnesses fail to show up for July 23 hearing

Imphal, November 22 2011:
After Sessions Judge, Manipur East framed charges against the police personnel accused in the July 23 Khwairamband Killing in accordance with the chargesheets submitted by the CBI, the Court initiated proceedings to hear the case today but none of the personal witnesses turned up.
Subsequently, the Court fixed December 3 for hearing the personal witnesses.
Notably, Sanjit and Rabina were killed in the July 23, 2009 Khwairamband Killing.
The CBI has been investigating the incident and it has already submitted charge-sheets against the accused police personnel.
Although none of the personal witnesses turned up, late Sanjit's mother Chungkham Taratombi filed an application seeking permission to allow Advocates Khaidem Mani, Meihoubam Rakesh, Thokchom Premlata, Lourembam Rebika, Laimayum Devananda, Y Devbratta, Ksh Ibotombi, L Indira and N Shantibala assist the Public Prosecutor.
After perusing the application, the Court gave due permission allowing the Advocates to assist the Public Prosecutor.
Inspector T Devendra, Head Constable Th Jagat, Rifleman Md Imram Khan, Head Constable MK Kanchung and Rifleman Ng Toyaima against whom the CBI filed charge-sheets appeared at the Court along with their defence Counsels.
However, Inspector Y Munal did not show up citing medical reasons.
Nevertheless, Munal was represented by his defence counsel P Purnima.
