Imphal, October 22 2019:
Announcing the BJP's stand on the Naga peace talk, the party's Manipur State unit spokesperson Chongtham Bijoy has claimed that the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Langjing Achouba, Patsoi on February 26, 2017 that the peace talk will not affect Manipur in anyway, still stands true today.
Giving a reply to the demand by the Opposition (Congress) to give its (BJP) stand on the Naga peace talk, Bijoy said that Prime Minister Modi, who made the promise to the people of Manipur that the issue would not impact the integrity of Manipur in anyway, is still the Prime Minister of the country.
There is no need for a Prime Minister to repeat his assurance again and again, Bijoy contended, adding that what PM Modi announced also holds true for the party.
He further stated that whatever solution is reached in the peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India, should be confined to the geographical boundary of Nagaland State.
He said that even if financial packages are provided to the Naga community residing in Manipur, it should not be done on an ethnic basis and instead the financial packages should be given through the State Government for all the hill areas of the State.
The BJP State unit has already made it clear in the past that if the Central Government takes any decision that will impact peace and harmony/integrity of the State, the BJP State unit will oppose it tooth and nail.
Bijoy said that any administrative or economic reforms of the State cannot be done without involving the State Government.
It is the BJP State unit's unwavering demand that the Centre should consult the stakeholders of the State before a solution is brought, he added.
