Police foil attempt to storm Assembly

Demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur, a group of students today tried to storm Manipur Assembly.
In order to control the agitating students, police fired several rounds of tear gas shells and .
The police also attacked the the students with canes and one assaulted student was rushed to JNIMS hospital for medical attention.
On Tuesday at about 10 in the morning, students of CC Higher Secondary School tried to storm Manipur Legislative Assembly which is currently holding budget session demanding implemen- tation of ILPS in the State.
Students of CC Hr Sec School were joined by students of the International Modernised Academy at New Checkon.
The two student teams then shouted in unison for implementation of ILPS in the State.

Soon police started chasing the students with canes in their hands in an attempt to keep the motivated students under control.
The police also charged the students with tear gas shells.
In retaliation, the students pelted with stones to the police team.
Even as the students ran away and hid inside the gates of the nearby houses, the police called them out and thrashed students whom their canes could reach out.
In the meantime, a student of CC Higher Secondary School identified as Y Pravin of Keishampat reading in class XI was hit by stones allegedly pelted by police.
At the impact of the stone, Pravin turned himself for safety but his right forehead collided with a police vehicle thereby injuring himself.
He was then rushed to JNIMS by his school teachers.
Convener of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, Students Wing M Angamba Meitei communicated to reporters that the police atrocities to students, who were approaching towards Manipur Assembly protesting for implementation of ILP in Manipur, should be condemned in strongest term.
Elaborating on the demand, Angamba further stated that the students are demanding right to life for the threatened indigenous people and this right to life would be secured only through implementation of ILP in the State.
He also mentioned of the two assembly resolutions taken in 2012 and 2013 in this regard.
However, both resolutions have lapsed after six months owing to non implementation.
He also denounced the Manipur Assembly for not executing the private member resolution.
He then said that legislative assurance for implementation of ILP should be endorsed in the current assembly session if the Chief Minister and the elected leaders could sense the demographic changes seen in the State.
Angamba further informed that they have submitted an ultimatum 10 days ago to discuss the matter in the ongoing Assembly session, but no MLAs, be it ruling or opposition bothers to take up the issue.
So, he continued, more stringent activities will be launched so as to meet their demand.
Meanwhile, general secretary of the CC Higher Secondary School W Anand lamented police action meted out to the students.
He further said that the police actions were out of proportion maintaining that they have joined the struggle of ILP in the larger interest of the people of Manipur.
The general secretary then demanded to take action against the police personnel for their excesses and if the demand is not materialized, CC Hr Sec School would be closed.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Convener of the Joint Committee on ILP, Students Wing Imphal East Laishram Thouba has been arrested.
