Imphal, February 22 2015:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has banned the Human Resource Centre, Nagamapal indefinitely and the students body has asked officials of the Centre to come to their office tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at their office today, AMSU HRD secretary Manjit Sarangthem said that the Human Resource Centre organised a selection test for awarding scholarship to 300 students reading between Classes III and IX .
The selection test was postponed to February 22 from a date previously set in January.
Accordingly, around 40,000 students from different parts of the State including hill districts went to different centres to give the exam today.
Whereas no arrangements could be seen in many exam centres, no proper sitting arrangements were made in some centres like DM College.
The question papers were not sufficient and many candidates were compelled to share question papers.
Some students were not given their seats and they ran out weeping from the exam hall.
When the students did not come out from the exam halls even after the given time was over, some parents/guardians went inside the halls and they found that many students were yet to start writing answers.
This infuriated a large number of parents/guardians and they raised an uproar.
Subsequently, the selection test was terminated midway.
On learning about the uproar, a team of AMSU volunteers went to the exam centres and confiscated question papers as well as answer sheets.
Some invigilators hired by the HRC were also pulled up by AMSU.
The selection test was for English, Mathematics and Science.
While students reading between Classes III and VI were allowed to give the exam only in Mathematics subject, students reading in Classes VII and VIII were made to give the same exam in Mathematics and English.
But for Class IX students, the test included questions from English, Mathematics and Science.
The HRC collected Rs 200 each from every candidate for each subject in addition to charging Rs 20 for each application form.
Thus the HRC collected a huge amount of money through fraudulent means.
Strangely, the questions papers indicated neither full marks nor pass marks nor marks carried by each question.
Taking serious note of the deceitful practice, AMSU has decided to ban HRC indefinitely, Manjit said.
HRC has been running a home tutor service and also an advanced coaching centre at Nagamapal.
Manjit cautioned all students as well as parents against tuition centres with unknown precedents and dubious credentials which are mushrooming in Imphal.
He then asked all institutions/centres to obtain prior approval of AMSU before organising any academic competition of young students.
