Imphal, January 22 2022:
Shopkeepers at Manipur People's Party (MPP) Shopping complex at Paona Bazar have resolved to shut shops until an amicable solution is brought for depicting them in bad light by the 'self proclaimed' general secretary of the MPP.
Speaking to the media at Kshetrigao Bengoon Awang Leikai Community Hall, one Md Rafi Khan representing all the shopkeepers claimed that the general secretary and his team asked the business operators at MPP Shopping complex to contribute some money (Rs 50, 000 for small shops and Rs 1 lakh for bigger shops) for the 12th Assembly election.
Apart from another team of MPP pressuring them to not give the money until the dissent within the party is solved, the team asking the money was unwilling to give receipt for the contribution, he alleged.

Saying that there were some arguments regarding the money as the shopkeepers couldn't arrange the amount due to the effect of Covid pandemic, Rafi Khan maintained that some shops in the complex were found locked yesterday compelling the shopkeepers to file a complaint to the police.
Accusing the shopkeepers of not clearing their security deposit and rents is unfounded, he said and added that the shopkeepers have not done anything to malign the image of MPP as claimed by certain persons.
Further stating that the shopkeepers also conform to the regulations given by the party at all times, Rafi Khan said that shopkeepers also have the receipts and documents for clearing their dues.
Condemning the team for depicting them in bad light who are working for small profit, he added that all shopkeepers at the shopping complex will shut shops until the restriction put on four shops is lifted.
On the other hand, MPP (president L Apabi Group) general secretary (organization) Thokchom Sajukumar appealed to all concerned to not contribute any money until the dissent within the party is solved.
