Imphal, August 21 2020:
Representatives of the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) and eight indigenous organisations met Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today and highlighted the plight of the Manipuris in Assam regarding Manipuri language.
During the meeting, AAMSU representatives apprised the Minister about the difficulties Assam Manipuris are facing as various recruitment examinations including the ones conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission have made it mandatory for candidates to choose from only three languages - Assam, Bengali and Bodo.

Himanta Biswa assured to solve the issue regarding the examinations conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission at the earliest and look into the recruitment of other Departments too, said a statement of the AAMSU.
The representatives of the AAMSU also urged Himanta Biswa to consider inserting Manipuri language as an optional paper and regularise teachers teaching Manipuri language in Bengali and Assamese medium schools.
