Anti-Terrorism Day observed in State

The State Government today observed Anti-Terrorism Day at South Block, Secretariat.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi called on the people to take collective responsibility in solving the problem relating to violence.
Dwelling on the dream and vision of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Chief Minister also urged the people to contribute towards the growth and development of the State so as to realise the vision of the late Prime Minister who once said, 'I dream of an Indiastrong, independent, self-reliant and in the front rank of nations of the world' .
The day has been observed as Anti-Terrorism Day in to mark the death of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi who was killed by a suicide bomber on this day in 1991 .
The programme was attended, among others, by Home Minister Gaikhangam; Education Minister, M Oken; RD and PR Minister, Francis Ngajokpa; besides top civil and police officers and Government employees.
Pledge for anti-terrorism by all officials and staff of the Secretariat to oppose violence and promote peace and also campaign to further cause of combating terrorism marked the observance function.
Meanwhile, 30 Assam Rifles and 28 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) organised drawing competition and lecture for youth at Nilakuti, Sawombung, Khurukhul, Chingmairong, Temple of Learning School at Andro and Mission High School at Machingpat to commemorate Anti-Terrorism Day.
According to a statement of the PRO of IGAR (S), the objective of this function was to wean away the youth from violence cult by highlighting the sufferrings of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to the State and National interest.
The function was a clear cut indication of awareness amongst the children, youth and elders against terrorism and efforts to usher everlasting peace and development, it stated.
In yet another occasion 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) observed Anti Terrorism Day today at Battalion Headquarters, and its various Posts, which were marked by rallies of school children holding banners, placards and shouting slogans against Terrorism and counseling was conducted for village GBs, Secretaries and Village Authorities.
Villagers of the area appreciated the efforts of AR in organizing anti-terrorism campaign for awareness of public, it added.
